bastard...I had managed to hypnotise myself into not realising how tantalisingly close Monday is. Now I am going to be like a child stuck on a long car journey to Disneyland!

Thankyou! I was planning on hanging around for my CD to arrive (shipped today from the lovely ladies and gentlemen of Matador Records in NYC), but MOJO's official stream went online today and I sort of caved in. As for the speed of it, I must confess that I wrote much of the top, preambly bit a few days ago (the Beatles/Zep 8 years thing occurred to me on the way to work and I had to pull over for giggling, child that I am), the rest is typing while trying to listen and hoping that somewhere in there is a whole sentence. Which is much the same as me talking when I get going, albeit without all the swearing :)

Nice one. Don't know how you managed to write this up so quickly! I'm holding out for the CD before I give the album a listen, but I can't wait!

wierdly this ties in to a recommendation that I was anticipating (and had warned you about!). So, try: http://mattbaueranddanafalconberry.bandcamp.com/

Now, that wasn't the main recommendation (though it is very good), but I am waiting on CD of Matt Bauer's 2011 release: http://mattbauer.bandcamp.com/

I wasn't going to say anything about it till I got it and listened through properly, but I already know that I will be retrospectively adding this to my "best of 2011" list. It is also a who-is-who of Americana - Mariee Sioux, Alina Hardin, Jolie Holland. His previous full-lengther "The Island Moved In The Storm" was also very good, with a similar stellar support, including the stupendous Alela Diane.

Whilst on the recommendation trail (and musically more in the Radiohead/Other Lives mold)...try this from an up-coming full release:

I just had a bit of a rant on the Guardian's website about this very thing - all well and good having people feeling that they're "sticking it to the man" by downloading stuff for free, but when they're doing this to artists who need every penny they can get in order to make a living from this, it's all a bit selfish.
As I said above, the business model used by the industry is rigid and outdated. But it does have a right to defend its copyrights, albeit not in the cack-handed fashion they've been doing since Napster first came on the scene (or indeed back in the day when radios started to be made with cassette decks, along with instructions on how to record from said radio with an added thing telling you then not to). Sadly, it's probably gone too far now to convince people who don't pay now to start paying in the future, but there must be some sort of compromise available where people *will* want to pay for something they like, and an industry that provides a bit more choice and flexibility in how their product is marketed and sold - going back to having Youtube as a source of free advertising rather than controllable revenue and putting an end to price-fixing and territory locks on iTunes and Amazon downloads would be a lovely start...

And recommend away!

agreed. I don't bother owning music I don't love (on the whole), and if I love it, I want to pay something for it...after all, how else do I expect the people with talent to make what I love? Thats not to say I won't shop around (often with about 5 browser windows open searching bandcamp, amazon, itunes, fairshare, CDBaby). Unfortunately the "something for nothing" mentality pervades all aspects of society nowadays, ho hum :(

Talking of things I love....warning Si....will soon be sticking a few recommendations in random places on your blog ;P
